DIY Snowman Hands

DIY Snowman Hand Ornament

I just finished off a little Christmas Ornament for a friend of mine. She was over with her little boy while I was making my Santa Hands & I had some spare dough so I sneakily got his handprint whilst she wasn’t looking ; ) There are plenty of versions of this on Pinterest, this is mine…

You will need:

Sharpies/permanent pens

Straw or pen

Butter knife

White paint

Ribbon

Glitter (optional)

Varnish/craft smart

and

The Dough Ingredients

2 cups of plain flour

1/2 cup of salt

1/2 cup of water

Start by mixing all of the Dough Ingredients into a large bowl.

Then roll out into about 1cm thickness.

Cut a circle (ish) shape using the butter knife.

Form a hole to hang the ornament at the top by pressing in the straw.

Then get your kiddies hand press into the mould, insuring to press down on each finger to get a good imprint.

Then let your imprint set/dry for about 12 hours.

Once dry, give your ornament two coats of white paint (any craft paint is fine…preferably non-toxic if you are working with kids).

Once the paint is dry, trace around the handprint with a black permanent marker (you can use a Sharpie, Posca, BIC Mark It pen & I’m sure there are plenty of others out there too).

Then draw in all of the Snowman details. It’s a nice touch to add the Child’s name and the year too ; ) I then added some white glitter & sprayed with Varnish to preserve the ornament. I threaded some Christmas ribbon through the hole for hanging and voila! A great little keepsake.

  1. I made this, but the 1/2 cup of water did NOT make it into a dough, it was dry, crumbly and not at all together. I grabbed another 1/2 cup of water, but only needed to add 1/4 cup more to make it into a dough. It was still kind of dry, but more pliable. I cut out shapes/decorations and they are drying now. I’m hoping they don’t crack or break.
