Dinosaur Fossils – using homemade clay!

Dinosaur Fossils - with homemade clay!

These are so EASY and FUN to make at home using this homemade clay!

What you’ll need –

  • one batch of our Homemade Clay
  • Brown food colouring
  • Some plastic Dinosaurs (we used some skeleton ones but regular Dinos will also leave a great impression as seen here.
  • Oven set to 100 degrees Celsius

Instructions –

Knead in some brown food colouring, roll out the clay, press each dino in to leave a nice impression. If you don’t get a good one first go you can re-knead and roll to start again. Once you are happy with the imprint place them onto a wire rack in the oven for one hour (or until fully dry). It’s best to place them in the oven straight away – don’t leave them in the open air or they will start to crack. Once they are dry turn the oven off and leave them to cool inside the oven (I find this prevents cracking). It’s also important to keep the unused clay covered with a damp towel while you are using it, it can also be stored in the fridge this way inside a zip lock bag.

You can paint the finished fossils if you like.
