My daughter is officially SEVEN…where did those seven years go?? It feels like just yesterday that I was pregnant and expecting our first child, exactly the same time I met Jenni (my blogging partner in crime!).
If you follow us on Instagram or Periscope (live video streaming) you’ll get an idea about just how adventurous my 7 year old is! She LOVES to be outside and is always the first one to get covered in MUD! So when I started to think about a FUN party venue here on the Sunshine Coast the Maleny Dairy Farm came to mind – I knew Miss 7 would love being outdoors and around animals PLUS it would be a great learning experience for herself and her friends too!
We called the farm and were able to book a private group tour, they also reserved some tables and chairs under some marquees for our party guests, celebrations and games (although the kids were too busy running and playing in the fresh farm air to play any structured games).
We then set about deciding on the cake…because what farm party is complete without a Barn Yard Cake! I ordered a slab of chocolate cake that we carved up to make the shape of a barn. I ordered 1kg of red, green, white & chocolate pre-coloured fondant to cover the the cake and make the barn roof, green grass and windows. I also ordered a small 250g pack of black fondant to add depth to the windows. We used butter cream icing to ‘build’ and layer the cake before we rolled out the fondant to cover (this was all done in three hours). I used Schleich toys (cleaned) to add the farm animals.
I then managed to find some lovely pink and brown ‘cow print’ fabric (it was even on SALE #winning) from East Coast Fabrics. I used it to whip up a stylish bunting and table cloth! I also found some cute pink and blue check fabric to make some handkerchief ‘cowgirl & cowboy’ for dress-ups and purchased some ‘Cowboy’ hats from the local discount store (which doubled as a cute table display and added dress-up costumes). I used some off-cuts from both to make the simple party bags which were filled with a delicious Maleny Dairies flavoured milk and a few lollies (these were arranged as an ‘extra’ with our party package).
We had a lovely time on our Dairy Farm Tour! This was the second time we’ve visited however this was super special to arrange a private party tour with Miss 7’s friends and family! The children were NEVER bored during this very interactive and educational experience. They watched a short video on the history of the farm and why they started to process milk and evolve into Maleny Dairies! This video was FUN but had a really great message about supporting our local Australian farmers! We then toured the milking shed, processing area, meet and feed some of the baby farm animals before having a first hand milking experience with Millie the cow! Some of the children (& Fun Mums) had some milk sprayed into their mouths directly from the udder – so fun to watch!
After the tour concluded we were all treated to a whole range of product samples from yoghurts, custard, flavoured milk and their famous ‘Gold top’ Milk! They’ve won countless awards for their quality products which isn’t surprising when you taste them! My favourite was the Apricot Yogurt!
We brought our own fresh rolls and sandwiches for lunch however they have BBQ amenities there if you wish to have a sausage sizzle.
The children then had fun running around the open spaces, bouncing on their inflatable animals and playing a giant set of chess! We didn’t partake in any organised party games because the children were having too much fun being FREE! Maleny Dairies have a great article with some FUN featured party games here (well worth a read).
We would LOVE to hear of other open farms in your areas? Maybe leave a comment below so other families around the world can do something similar for their Birthday! We can’t recommend Maleny Dairies enough for a party or farm tour! Absolutely everyone had a special day! Thank you so much to Maleny Dairies and their amazing staff for hosting our special day!
We can’t wait to visit again soon! Louise x PS – give our love to Millie!
