Decorated Rocks – using crayons.
My daughter is always collecting rocks and pebbles wherever we go – I love this different and easy technique of decorating them.
All you’ll need –
- Some smooth rocks or pebbles
- Crayons
- Lined oven tray
- Oven or hairdryer
My kids and I had a ball decorating the rocks using the crayons! It was so easy my 18month old boy joined in on the action too! And no messy paints to deal with either!!
Once the rocks were decorated we placed them onto a lined baking tray and baked them in a pre-heated warm oven (100 degrees) for just 10mins. You can watch the crayons transform from their rough state to a shinny melted gloss. You can also melt the crayons using a hairdryer – being very careful not to burn your fingers!
Allow them to fully cool before you or the children handle them…once their cool you can give them a polish with an old rag or sock.
The finished product looks shinny and glossy.
These would make great gifts – perhaps you could glue a magnet on the back for the fridge, make a paperweight for Father’s Day or even some hanging Christmas Tree Ornaments with some Christmas themed drawings??
We hope you give them a go. Don’t forget to send us some photos of your finished creations!

Do you have to use a particular type of crayon for them to show up?
Hi, I think any crayon would work :). Louise
