DIY Tulle Cake Stand
We made this easy cake stand for under $10…we will be able to reuse it again and again & the ‘skirt’ can also double as a mini tutu!
What you’ll need –
- Rolls of tulle in your colour of choice (*see below post for link to purchase from ebay)
- Elastic
- Empty Hat Box
I simply tied the elastic around the hat box. I cut multiple lengths of each colour tulle (double the height of the Hat Box). I then used the same method as our ‘no sew’ tutu to tie the tulle around the elastic.
Then simply slide the finished tutu back onto the box and you’re ready to place the cake on top.

I love this idea!! So cute, cheap and easy to make!! I just have one question, does the hat box hold the cake well? Is the cake not too heavy? I ask because they are giving me a hard time where i ordered my cake for my baby shower as they are saying it is not safe to put a tier cake on top of anything but i am determine to make one myself!
Hi Darline, It probably depends on the quality of the box but mine is strong enough for me to stand on (I just tested it lol). Hope that helps. Louise x
Cute ideas for parties!
Wonderful idea you can let your imagination run wild with all you can create
I was wondering how much (in feet) tulle you needed for this?
Thanks!
Hi Jamie, I’m sure my roll was 75 feet long – there was some left over afterwards. I hope that helps. Louise x
Hi I was Wondering how big was your hat box?
Hi Paris,
It would have been 30cm in diameter. Any size will do depending on the size of your cake.

We bought ours at a discount store, I’m sure any storage store would have them. Or maybe try searching online. Louise
