Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE taking photos! Therefore I thought it would be cool to make a Mini Hot Air Balloon photo prop/booth for the kids to play and pose in at Master M’s 1st Birthday party.
Jenni managed to find the used basket as a giveaway at our local church playgroup (thank you Jenni!). I then used some fabric I had laying around to bunch around the outside, I used empty bank bags stuffed with toy stuffing to make the four sandbags. I used black cable ties to secure both the fabric and sandbags to the outside of the basket by threading it through the woven straw. I also attached some lightweight rope to each centre side of the basket to attach the helium balloons to.
I really wanted the balloons to have the WOW factor so I did a search on eBay and found these super large 90cm balloons (http://stores.ebay.com.au/instyleparties) ….perfect! I hired a helium tank from my local party store for $50 (advertised to inflate 40 regular balloons) this was enough to inflate all three large ones and another 10 regular ones which I used as decorations.
I thought it would be super cute to have the kids wear Pilot Goggles in the pics – I jumped on and ordered a set from Cheeky Chops (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cheeky-Chops-Shop/136660683095821?fref=ts). They were $12.00 +Postage. I love them so much and can’t wait for Winter so he can wear them as a beanie.

All the kids loved posing for photos in the Hot Air Balloon basket – it was a HUGE HIT! I’m going to print the individual photos of each guest to include in our thank you cards.

Where did you find a basket that big??
Hi Candy, this was an old laundry basket that I found at a second hand store. Louise
Hi there! Love this cute idea! Would you be willing to sell the large basket now that the event is over? I live in Canada and have been looking desperately for a basket that size and cannot find anywhere! Please email me. [email protected]
Thanks a bunch!!
