We were lucky enough to attend the Winter Wonderlights Christmas in July Festival in Sovereign Hill this year. We had heard it was awesome, but it exceeded our expectations by a long shot. I mean who doesn’t want TWO Christmas’ in their lives! I know I do!
The entire Sovereign Hill township evokes a sense of old-world wonder. As you stroll down Main Street you will find jolly staff dressed in old-world attire as snow-flakes fall at regular intervals over the Victorian-style buildings. You can take a ride on a horse and cart through the town, pan for gold, visit an actual gold mine and so much more.
We had the best time panning for gold and actually came home with REAL gold! We could have sat all day and just have done that.
Check out our video below again on Facebook LIVE and watch us find gold!
One of the MUST do’s at Sovereign Hill is to take a ride on a Coach Ride! You get to see the whole town from the comfort of your own horse drawn cart.
Check out our Facebook LIVE video below doing just that.
All of the beautiful buildings are just as they were in the 1850’s with windows decorated in beautiful Christmas theme. There are some amazing food outlets too…the Hope bakery has the BEST sausage rolls we’ve ever had! The kids were pretty happy with the Gingerbread men too!
You can’t go past the food at the Charlie Napier Hotel either! We had the best slow cooked stew we’ve both ever eaten!
The kids had fun making their own candles too…how often do you get to do that?!
At night, Main Street comes alive with an amazing light projection show with over 20 of Sovereign Hill’s buildings lit up with large-scale image projections and Christmas animations. I literally shed a tear over this, it’s just unbelievable in person. The music sets the tone for the magic that happens. The kids were beside themselves with excitement!
We did another LIVE video on Facebook, check it out below for all of the action.
I can’t finish this post without commenting on the staff. Not only were they in full costume and full character, the length that they went to to make our kids have a good time was beyond.
Thank you so much for having us Sovereign Hill!
We’ve made a short video of our special trip, you can check it out below.
We can’t wait to come back! If you guys want to head there, you still have time! Check out all of the details below!
