School Holidays on the Sunshine Coast – what we’ll be doing!

School Holiday FUN! Sunshine Coast style!
Wow, how fast is this year going? We can’t believe it’s September already but we are super excited to have our school aged children home for the spring school holidays! We can see that they are just as excited to have a break from their regular routines and enjoy some extra FUN! No packing lunch boxes for two weeks! Yay!

We have a WHOLE website full of FUN recipes, activities and craft ideas – perfect for making special memories with your children over the holidays! Search ‘crafts’ and see if anything tickles your fancy.

We both love sharing adventures with our children and even though we won’t be going away on a family holiday doesn’t mean we can’t have our own mini adventures here on the beautiful Sunshine Coast! Are you a local Sunny Coaster? We would love to hear and see what exciting things you get up to in our local area – you can tag us on Instagram if you would like to share some photos!

Here are just a few of the places we love to visit and explore! There are SO many more but these are the ones we plan on visiting these holidays.

Beaches
It’s no lie that we are spoilt beyond belief with our choice of beautiful beaches here on the Sunshine Coast! Our two personal favourites would be the famous Mooloolaba Beach and Currimundi Lake. So many school holiday memories have been made here with our children! The shallow waters of Currimundi Lake make it an enjoyable destination with young children. It’s a family friendly area with a lovely cafe that serves the yummiest mini pancakes! It’s super important to keep a watchful eye on your children at all times around water and please remember to swim between the flags!

Climb a Mountain Mount Coolum is probably the most famous and popular mountains to climb here on the Sunshine Coast! The views alone make the 40 minute hike worthwhile!  You’ll find lots of families climbing the mountain together – a great family bonding experience and also fantastic exercise! You can find all the location information here.

Maleny Dairy Farm You might remember we hosted a birthday party here back in June? We love visiting this beautiful farm and taking part in the farm tours! You and your children will have so much FUN learning and getting hands on with their beautiful farm animals! You can read all about it here.

Maleny Botanical Gardens This is such a magical place to visit! Nestled high above the Sunshine Coast and offering the most spectacular views, beautifully manicured gardens and the most magical fairy garden we have ever seen! Not to mention the farm animals and Bird World! We highly recommend enjoying this peice of paradise with your family. You can read all about it here.

Mary Cairnscross Scenic Reserve Another hinterland gem! This place is amazing! Rainforest walks, Australian wildlife, fantastic amenities (including a super cool playground!!). This place really has it ALL! Pack a picnic and enjoy the fresh spring air with your family! You can find all the information on how to find this hidden gem here. Australia Zoo  What’s not to love about Australia Zoo? Esspecialy when they have such an action packed school holiday program! This school holidays is all about Dinosaurs which makes it a MUST visit for our Dino loving kids! You can read more about Australia Zoo’s School Holiday program here.

Strawberry Picking Another special place we love to visit! We’ve spent many hours and made many happy memories picking fresh strawberries on our local strawberry farm. They have a great playground and cafe too! Find the address and all their information here.

Visit a  Market
The Sunshine Coast is home to many great farmers and craft markets! You can find a handy list of them here.

Aussie World Nothing screams school holiday FUN like a theme park! We recently visited to check out some of the new rides and experiences and were VERY impressed! The Illusionarium was so amazing! We can’t wait to visit with the kids and see their faces light up with the excitement! You can read all about Aussie World here.

Rainbow Beach  If you have a couple of days where you can get away (even just for a night) we really enjoy visiting Rainbow Beach (just a short two hour road trip from the Sunny Coast!). Jenni and I were very lucky to have experienced a horse back adventure on Rainbow Beach recently! We trotted through the waves whilst watching the sun set over the rainbow coloured sands…then a beautiful full moon rose above the water. This experience will stay with us forever! You can book your own horseback adventure here. We promise it’s an amazing opportunity and they can cater rides for the whole family!
