Glow in the Dark Silly Putty

Glow in the Dark Silly Putty 1

My kids LOVE Silly Putty! We have done ‘Normal Silly Putty‘, ‘Jelly/Jello Silly Putty‘ and ‘Frozen Silly Putty‘ so far…so I thought it was high time we made…Glow in the Dark Silly Putty!

To make your own you will need:

I bottle of Elmers Glue (118ml)

118 ml of water

* 1/2 teaspoon of Borax (I bought mine at Bunnings Hardware store for $8)

1/4 cup hot water

Glow in the Dark Paint (we used about 2 teaspoons)

Black Light

Step 1

Pour your glue into a bowl

Step 2

Fill that same glue container with water, add to the glue and mix

Step 3

Add 2 tsp of glow in the dark paint (or as much as you need for your desired colour) and mix well

Step 4

In a separate container add 1/2 teaspoon of Borax

Step 5

Add the 1/4 cup of hot water and stir until dissolved

Step 6

Pour the Borax solution into the glue, water & paint mixture

Step 7

Stir well until combined (you can even get your hands into this action if you like…I always do!)

Step 8

Turn of the lights, turn on your black light and let the magic happen! My kids were AMAZED at this and we make it all the time now!

*Please note that Borax is not edible so please make sure that anything including Borax stays away from little mouths and tummies!

  1. Just a note- I love Glow in the Dark, and used to use with some of the children I work with. However, several years ago, while at a conference, a presenter warned of the harmful chemicals in glow products. She especially cautioned against children handling the liquid either intentionally or accidentally. This would be of particular concern for kids with sensitivities. I have not researched to see of any articles, etc. –
I am only passing along what I heard.
