My kids, especially my daughter, LOVE Slimes, Playdoughs and anything squishy and squelshy, so I am always looking for new recipes to keep them entertained! I recently had a Rainbow Party and had loads of Jelly left over so I made some wonderful Jelly Soap Foam. It was so much fun and smelt divine so I thought I would try my hand at some Jelly Silly Putty! It worked out a treat!
I have made Silly Putty before, as you can see here, it’s stretchy, oozy and super FUN and the kids love it! They love this Jelly Silly Putty too and I am super excited to share it with you!
To make your own you will need:
I bottle of Clear School Glue (147ml)
The same amount of water (147ml)
1/2 teaspoon of Borax (I bought mine at Bunnings Hardware store for $8)
1/2 cup hot water
2tbs Jelly Crystals
Step 1
Pour your glue into a bowl
Step 2
Fill the same bottle with water and add to the glue
Step 3
Stir until well combined
Step 4
In a separate cup add approximately 2 tbs of Jelly Crystals
Step 5
Add 1/2 cup of hot water and stir until dissolved
Step 6
Pour out 1/4 a cup of this mixture (we want to keep 1/4 of a cup of the mixure only – you can discard the rest or use it for your next batch!)
Step 7
Pour the 1/4 cup of Jelly solution into a separate container
Step 8
Add 1/2 of a teaspoon of Borax and mix well
Step 9
Pour this solution into your original bowl with the glue and water
Step 10
This is the best part! Stir and watch the magic happen! Doesn’t it look cool! It may take you a few minutes to make sure it’s all combined properly
Step 11
Enjoy this fun, beautifully smelling, sensory Jelly/Jello Silly Putty!
Check out our adorable video on how to make Frozen Silly Putty below!
I’ve had our Silly Putty stored in a zip lock bag for two weeks now & it’s still going strong! This would make a fantastic gift for school friends or to take to kindy for the kids to play with!
*Please note that Borax is not edible so please make sure that anything including Borax stays away from little mouths and tummies!

Where can I buy jelly crystals ?
Hi Deanna, you can get them at your local supermarket : ) Jenni x
If you’re American — jelly crystals are just jello or flavored gelatin…
I don’t know where you are located but here in Texas I buy the flavored gelatin (JELLO) at the Dollar store 3 for $1.00 for the store brand.Hope this helps
Clear glue and liquid laundry starch. Leave out the borax. Use food coloring for color. Little safer than borax.
A SUPPERMARKET
Thank you! We love this site!
Thank you so much Jamie, we’re so glad you enjoy our FUN : ) Jenni x
I love this! I used 1/4 cup of water and 1 tbs Jello so I wouldn’t have extra to set aside. I also used white glue instead of clear because the clear is harder to find and more expensive. It didn’t look as cool but still smelled great and my daughter loved it!
I want to try this with my class of 2 year olds. With the borax is it safe if ingested
Hi Jessica, no it can be harmful if ingested.
I am a great grandmother and I still want to be fun!!
Are jelly crystals the same as jello powder?
Yes : )
yes and where can you get borax
Love the recipe!
Any idea where to get borax from in uk? I have borax substitute but I tried a similar recipe before and it didn’t seem to work.
BORAX IS IN ANY GROCERY STORE WHERE YOU’D FIND LAUNDRY SOAP
This is one of the better recipes out there! So glad I spotted this on Pinterest. I’ll be checking back often for other great ideas. For color not to stick on kiddos hands during mixing process I just have them put some lotion on their hands – works like a charm.
Would love to be able to be on this sight thanks
love your great projects
Do you store this after use and if so how did you store it?
Hi Katie, yes you can store it in an air tight container or zip lock bag 🙂 Jen x
