This week we decided to test out TWO slime recipes I found on Pinterest. Some didn’t exactly go to plan but we enjoyed testing them out and tweaking the recipe until we found one that was PERFECT!
First time at slime…
The first recipe I tried was this ‘Borax Slime’.
What you’ll need
2 Tbs borax
1 1/3 cups hot water
In a separate bowl
2 cups school glue
1 1/2 cups hot water
food colouring
Mix borax and 1 1/3 cups water. Then in a separate bowl mix glue, 1 1/2 cups water, and food colouring. Add both mixtures together and mix…that’s when the magic happens ;).
The mixture was very rubbery and not as slimy as we had hoped. I used PVA craft glue so I think that’s why it didn’t work out for us… Even though it didn’t turn out exactly right Miss M still enjoyed playing with the mixture.
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!
The next pin I wanted to try was this Glitter Slime.
What you’ll need
1 cup Glitter Glue
1 cup Water
1 tsp Borax dissolved in 1 Tbs water.
Mix glue and water together then add Borax solution and mix.
I couldn’t get any glitter glue without spending over $15 so I bought a glitter ‘paint’ mixture (from the $2 shop). It’s obviously not the same and therefore the mixture didn’t ‘set’ so I added half a cup of craft glue – this did make slime but not the nice glittery slime we were after…again that didn’t stop Miss M having a ball with the slime J. We even added some waterbeads to the mix for a bit of extra sensory fun!
Third time lucky!
I had one more container of glitter paint left so I decided to only add a small amount of water to this mix –
1 cup glitter paint
1 tablespoon HOT water
2 teaspoons of Borax
Dissolve the Borax in the hot water and then mix into the glitter paint.
Presto! The perfect slime! I was very proud of myself for guessing the correct measurements and did a mini happy dance with Miss M in celebration.
This slime is perfect – nice and stretchy, not too rubbery, not too sticky and best of all easy to clean up! We stored ours in some leftover baby food jars.
Miss M invited her best friends (Master L & Miss A) to come over and test it out with her. We gave them a bunch of googly eyes to make ‘Slime Monsters’ and then we added some water beads.
*this should be a supervised activity as it involves small parts that could be chocking hazards and I would also ensure the children don’t eat the slime ;).

Hi. Just wondering where you bought Borax from?
Michaela
Hi Michaela, we purchased it from Bunnings Hardware store. It might also be located in the cleaning aisle at your local supermarket.

If you use elmers gel glue it works wonderful for slime, nice and clear and whatever food coloring you want. We handed it out for halloween one year…everyone loved it.
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing the great advice Carol!!
This looks like such great fun. 😀
I’ve tried this before. I decorate the jars with vinil, felt, fake eyes an a label. I live in Indonesia, the glitter glue is very cheap. It’s only 5 thousand rupiah. Less than a dollar!
What type of glitter paint? like the gooey glitter paint that is used on fabrics or glitter paint that is in with the craft acrylic paints
The Craft Glitter Paint : ) Jenni x
Just wanted to say that that final glitter slime recipe, with that exact type of glitter paint, is AMAZING!
It is easily the best recipe we have tried yet and even beats the Elmers glue recipes hands down.
Thanks so much for sharing, the kids are having a blast with it and so am I!
Hi Benita, so happy to hear you and your kids enjoyed it! It really does make the perfect slime ;). Louise x
Hi can you tell me where I can purchase glitter paint from? I have found plenty of websites with glitter glue but no glitter paint.
Thank You
Hi Tanya, Glitter glue should also work just fine :). We are based in Australia and purchased ours at our local $2 store. If you are unable to find some Jenni made this great Silly Putty that is very similar to play with :). Louise x
