Day out with Thomas the Tank Engine – (Louise)

Just wanted to share a few photos from last Friday – our ‘Day out with Thomas’ @ the Ipswich Rail Museum.

This wasn’t our first trip to see Thomas as we try to go each year, I noticed they had made a few changes to the ‘show’ and this year was definitely the best so far. The Fat Controller was fantastic and held the attention of the kids really well as he sang and danced around the life-sized Thomas engine.

You could certainly pick the Thomas diehards amongst the crowd – covered head to toe in Thomas paraphernalia ;). My daughter watches the occasional TV episode and owns a few of the books & toys but is by no means a massive ‘fan’ – she was however equally excited to watch the show and meet both Thomas & The Fat Controller…never one to be shy she sat front and centre on the stage lol.

It was a sweltering hot day in Ipswich so we were very thankful for the air-conditioned areas set amongst the museum displays, and for the ice-cream we shared in their extensively stocked café.

They have a fantastic play room that’s filled with timber tracks and toys for the children to play with…the look of pure joy on the children’s faces as they entered was priceless!

The kids spent quite a while looking at the model railway which is based on different sites around QLD. A model Thomas train was making his way around the tracks too.

Another creative station with colouring pages and stamps for the kids to explore…

The beach themed sand pit area with some water-play tubs proved to be a great hit.

There is a miniature ‘train’ tour you can take around the grounds for an additional $3.

The Museum is very child friendly with loads of ‘hands on’ exhibits for the kids to interact with. The mother’s room is air-conditioned and all the amenities were spotless.

The kids really enjoyed the pretend Train Station area complete with ride on bikes and more ‘hands on’ trains and platforms.

Toot, toot!

If you can get to Ipswich I strongly recommend taking the kids along to the museum – you can find all the relevant information on their website (www.theworkshops.qm.qld.gov.au/). Louise x
