I just LOVE Christmas and have crafted another ornament for the Grandparents (and for our tree) this year. It might actually be a new tradition so we can see how much the kid’s hands grow each year!
So, first things first, I traced Master L and Miss A’s hands onto some thick card and cut them out to make a stencil.
I then made up the ‘dough”…
2 cups of flour (not self raising…I learnt from that little chestnut!)
1/2 cup of salt
1/2 cup of water
Roll out the dough onto some Baking Paper until it’s about 1.5 cm thick, then take your card & trace around the hand (very carefully) with a sharp knife – I found one with a very sharp point worked well. I then used a straw to create the hole at the top.
Then cut out the baking paper around each hand (to save trying to peel it off!) and place the hands onto a baking tray.
Cook these little babies at 180 degrees for about 30 minutes, then turn the heat down to 150 degrees for another 30mins (just keep an eye on them – you don’t want any burns!)
Once they are done, take them out of the oven and let them cool.
Then get your paint on! I painted both sides white first to have a base, then did the rest. I then did another layer of paint and added red & white glitter…again, a bit of bling ; ) On the back of each ornament, I wrote the kiddies name & the year, then sprayed both sides with ‘Craft Smart” (spray varnish) to protect them.
I then printed out the cute poems, then laminated & hole punched them ready to thread onto some pretty Christmas Ribbon to hang on the Tree.

I love homemade ornaments. I made these Santa Hands over 20 years ago when my children were small. Now I get to enjoy making them with my grandchildren. I love this site, it has a ton of creative ideas.
